Stage 5
Year 9 is the first year of Stage 5. Students undertake mandatory study in English, Mathematics, Science, PDHPE, History and Geography in Years 9 & 10. In Year 8 at Muirfield, students select three 200-hour electives that will be studied over the two years of Stage 5. The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) issues the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) to eligible students with grades from courses completed in Stage 5 (Year 10).

Stage 6
Year 11 is the first year of Stage 6. In Stage 6, students are Seniors and are studying for their Higher School Certificate. The only mandatory course for the HSC is English. Subject selection process commences in Year 10 and includes individualised advice. The offerings for the 2024-2025 Stage 6 cohort are available in the Stage 6 Subject Selection Booklet (pdf 875kb).
At Muirfield, all Year 11 students must undertake at least 12 school-delivered units for the first semester. Students may undertake courses through external providers. TAFE NSW Launchpad courses, delivered virtually by TAFE, will be supervised by Muirfield staff on Wednesdays and count towards the 12 school-delivered units.
If a student goes offsite for any externally delivered course, they will be carrying 14 units in Year 11. For these students, requests to drop a school-delivered course, which results in them studying fewer than 12 school-delivered units in Year 11, may be made during Term 3.
All Year 12 students must commence the year with at least 10 school-delivered units, unless on an approved pathways program. Requests to drop a school-delivered course, which results in a student studying fewer than 10 school-based units in Year 12, may be made during Term 1.
The decision to discontinue a school-delivered course will be at the school's discretion, with consideration given to application, behaviour and pattern of study.
