Reporting to parents

Reporting to parents

Written academic reports

We provide parents with a written report on their child’s learning twice per year. The components of the written report meet the Department of Education Policy Standard.

Year 7 to 9

The reports are based on each semester’s work. Each subject has one page. For each subject the report contains an A to E grade against course outcomes; an A to E grade for overall achievement and the teacher’s comment.

Year 10

Each report will contain an A to E grade against course outcomes; an A to E grade for overall achievement; student mark and rank and the teacher’s comment. In Year 10 the end of year’s report is for the whole year’s work and the overall grade is submitted to NESA for the student’s Year 10 RoSA grade.

Year 11 to 12

Each report has an A to E grade against course outcomes; student mark and rank and the teacher’s comment. The end of Year 11 reports also contain an overall course grade, which is submitted to NESA for the student’s  Year 11 RoSA grade.

Transition reports

Parents of Year 7 and 11 students are provided with a written “interim” report in Term 1 which gives an overview of how their child is settling into high school or senior studies.

Parent-teacher interviews

At Muirfield, we hold three parent-teacher evenings a year. The evening for Years 11 & 12 are normally held in Term 1, providing an opportunity for parents to touch base with the class teacher and discuss how to help their child with upcoming studies and assessments. The careers advisor will also be present. The evening for Years 8 & 10 is held in Term 2 and supports subject selections for the following year. Again, the careers advisor will also be present. The evening for Years 7 & 9 is held after parents receive the Semester 1 report, so parents can assist their child to follow teacher recommendations.

If parents require an interpreter, contact the school prior to the evening so we can arrange an appropriate interpreter.
