Reading at Muirfield - a door to success

Student with PRC award

Muirfield's teacher-librarian is supporting our students' love of reading.

Research suggests that reading for enjoyment not only predicts students' literacy skills but also possibly serves as a protective factor enabling students to become resilient learners.

This year our Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) will officially start on the 26th February.  Year 7 students will be having an ‘Introduction to the Library’ lesson to help them navigate resources in the library, check out what the library has to offer and give them assistance registering for the PRC. All Year 7 English classes start with 10 minutes of sustained silent reading.

Students in Years 8 and 9 are all welcome to participate in the PRC.  If any assistance is required, students can come into the library to speak to Ms Hankin.

As part of our ongoing efforts to diversify and enrich our library's collection, we're excited to introduce a new display highlighting books endorsed by Booktok as compelling reads. This curated selection aims to capture the attention of our students and spark their interest in exploring diverse literary offerings.
