While love was in the air on Valentine’s Day, Year 12 continued their focus on their studies. On Friday 14, the familiar sound of footsteps echoed through the corridors as Ms Reeves embarked on her routine classroom visits and joined Year 12 students for two periods. Even with a passing visit, Ms Reeves was impressed with the range of topics being taught and the focus on academic rigour.
In the Advanced Mathematics class, the air was thick with concentration, and the classroom silent, as students tackled the complex world of differentiation. Ms Reeves recalled her own days of 3Unit Maths and admitted that the intricacies of differentiation had slipped from her grasp. "Use it or lose it," she mused. For those intrigued and who want to try their hand at the problems she once mastered, the Year 12 in Action photo gallery offers a glimpse into these mathematical challenges.
Meanwhile, Standard Mathematics students were engrossed in trigonometry, deciphering the secrets of angles and triangles. This ancient mathematical discipline finds its place in modern fields like physics and engineering. Again, we have given you two Year 12 questions, with answers, in the photo gallery.
As the bell signalled the end of the maths marathon, students dispersed into a range of subjects. Biology enthusiasts delved into the mysteries of genetics and blood types, while Physics students explored the invisible forces of electromagnetism. In PDHPE, the focus shifted to the energetic processes of cells, a different kind of energy altogether. Across the school, Humanities students travelled back in time to the fall of the Roman Republic, unravelling the threads of history, while Business and Legal Studies classes navigated the complex worlds of marketing and international law.
At recess and lunch, the Year 12 Student Executive delivered roses and chocolates and serenaded students and staff. St Valentine’s Day serves as a cherished tradition that unites students and staff alike, infusing Muirfield with vibrant, positive energy.
