Muirfield High School is proud to support High Potential and Gifted Education through our innovative HSC Accelerated Investigating Science program, now running successfully with our first group of Year 9 students. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for highly capable students to fast-track their learning and deepen their engagement with science.
The program sees selected students complete Stage 5 Science (Years 9–10) in just one year, before beginning the Preliminary Investigating Science course in Year 10 and sitting the HSC in Year 11. This approach allows students to work at a pace that matches their aptitude, developing advanced skills in critical thinking, problem-solving and scientific investigation.
Our current cohort is thriving—exploring diverse scientific concepts, participating in hands-on experiments, and gaining exposure to real-world scientific issues across biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. From data analysis tasks to in-depth student research projects, these students are rising to the challenge of accelerated learning.
We are pleased to announce that the program will continue in 2026, with Year 8 students making their elective subject selections in Term 3, 2025. Students interested in the program are encouraged to speak with Mrs Gibson-Garside, Head Teacher Science, or their current Science teacher if they have any questions or would like to learn more.
This program offers a rewarding academic pathway that strengthens readiness for senior science and supports gifted learners to reach their full potential
