Looking after local biodiversity

planing of native species

On the 19th of July, the Year 11 Primary Industries classes had a whole day incursion with PlantingSeeds and the local Landcare group, learning about the importance of maintaining biodiversity in both urban and agricultural areas.

We participated in a workshop on sustainable work practices on farms, the importance of conserving biodiversity on farms, and the role of pollinators in the food chain, and we did a biodiversity assessment of the school looking for areas that would help to support pollinators in the local area.

We also worked with Landcare as part of the “Creating canopies” initiative by planting native species indigenous to the area to support biodiversity at Muirfield.
